The concussion clinic at Mt. Olive Family Medicine Center provides comprehensive care for sports-related concussions.

We utilize software to test the brain, such as SportGait, ImPACT, and Sway Balance to measure different ways that the brain functions. Initial visits are typically 2 hours in length. This allows the patient to be fully assessed by our concussion clinic staff and evaluated by one of our providers. Understand untreated concussion risks.

Eligibility Criteria:

The patient must be diagnosed with a concussion, either by their primary care provider, a provider at the Emergency Department, or by a MOFMC Walk-in Clinic provider. Then, an appointment can be made for the concussion clinic by calling Dr. Long at 919-658-4954 ext. 1040.

Insurance Info:

All evaluation and treatment will be billed to the patient’s insurance, but coverage is not guaranteed.

Additional Info:

A concussion typically occurs due to a direct hit to the head, but can also happen if the head moves hard on the body, similar to a whiplash movement. Typical signs and symptoms include headache, dizziness, feeling in a fog, loss of memory, feeling tired, sensitivity to light or noise, and feeling emotional. Sometimes symptoms don’t occur right away. If you suspect you or a family member has suffered a concussion, seek care immediately.
